Sand and oil timers are a lot of fun, but a lot of people do not understand they have a big difference. A sand timer is exact, this timer in particular is 1, 3 and 5 minutes. Perfect to help keep an eye on how long it takes to complete a task. A teacher can put it on a student’s desk, (of any age) and suggest they complete a task and monitor how long it takes. Encourage children to improve on time where suitable.
An oil timer, although often very pretty, is never an exact time to complete, its flow is faster or slower according to variables, such as weather, room temperature, even keeping them in the fridge can slow them down, but they are extremely relaxing to watch.
