Inspired by Leah Kuypers' acclaimed Zones of Regulation, our My Zones of Feelings in Auslan poster serves as a visual guide to assist children in understanding and categorising their diverse emotional landscape using Auslan.
Divided into four distinct coloured zones—blue, green, yellow, and red—this educational tool simplifies the intricate world of emotions. By allocating feelings to specific zones, it provides a structured and intuitive approach, enabling children to identify, comprehend, and communicate their emotions more effectively.
Comprising 36 distinct feelings, with 9 representative emotions within each zone, this poster becomes a catalyst for enriching conversations about emotional experiences and the appropriate responses to them.
Please note that the images showcased aim to offer a comprehensive overview of the handshapes and gestures essential for expressing various emotions in Auslan. For a deeper and more community-aligned understanding, cross-referencing with additional local resources is encouraged.
In our commitment to authenticity, this resource is the product of dedicated collaboration with multiple Auslan users, including Kirsten Mooney (Auslan instructor), David Grant ( 'Auslan with David'), and Gail Smith ('Auslan Journey'). Furthermore, valuable insights were garnered from the wider Deaf community to ensure the hand signs encapsulated their preferred expressions for the emotions depicted.
